CC Songwriters Festival; Open Community Planning Meeting to be held Monday

Corpus Christi Songwriters hosts an open meeting for the public to attend, to help steer the direction and build the inaugural Corpus Christi Songwriter Festival together — this Monday, May 15, 2017 at The Exchange.

The first annual Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival will be held February 16-19, 2018, from Padre to Corpus Christi Bay, with nationally acclaimed and local songwriters performing their original songs and the stories behind them. The festival will also feature charity events to benefit the Arts and the Ritz Theatre, as well as school appearances by some of the songwriters. We are seeking the community’s input and involvement.

The festival will also feature an all-weekend conference (Feb. 17-19, 2018) with workshops, break-out sessions, keynote speakers, etc., as well as a special Corpus Christi Music Awards ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2018.

Volunteers are needed to step in as Committee Members to help structure and run the festival, and we are also looking for host homes and venue greeters, for the songwriters. Many lifetime friendships between songwriters and volunteers have originated at festivals held in other locales.

This is a great way to showcase the island, our Bayfront and city! Please plan to attend this open meeting and become a part of this event!

The Open Public Meeting will be held at The Exchange (224 N. Mesquite St.) at 6:30 p.m.

Songwriters celebrated at Year-End Event

CORPUS CHRISTI – On Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Corpus Christi Songwriters (CCSW) – an extension of C.C. PATCH ( a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) will host its “In The Rounds” series at House of Rock (411 Starr St.), focusing on local and regional original songwriters.

“In The Rounds” is held on the second Sunday of every month, creating an intimate environment welcoming new and seasoned songwriters to share their songs with an attentive and engaged audience. CCSW hosts the series with an invited Featured Guest Artist. This month’s Featured Guest Artist is Rev. Fred Cook, of HOBO fame, bringing his unique and completely engaging songs to our listeners.

The format is simple: each songwriter is allowed to perform TWO (2) songs (they can be new songs, or old songs, but they must be ORIGINAL songs). Once everyone has shared their songs, stories and inspirations behind them, the cycle will begin again, limited to ONE (1) song each, until midnight. The stage is open to 10 participants, as sign-up begins at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free, but CCSW does pass a hat to collect donations which will go directly to the Featured Guest Artist and the organization.

On Sunday night, CCSW will also announce five nominees to be the first Inductees into the Corpus Christi Songwriters “Hall of Fame”. The official Inductees will be announced at the final “In The Rounds” event at the Executive Surf Club (306 N. Chaparral St.) on Sunday, Dec. 11.

“In The Rounds” is a family-friendly event.
